http://www.sterlingcommerce.com/about/about-us/IBM+Agrees+to+Acquire+Sterling+Commerce+from+ATT+for+1.4+Billion.htm

Progress Software compra a Savvion

Abaixo segue o link do press release:

http://web.progress.com/en/inthenews/progress-software-co-01112010.html

Strengths

Savvion BusinessManager 7.5 is one of the most-mature BPMS products. Its ability to handle high-volume workflows, requiring tight coordination of people and systems, has contributed to Savvion's growing success in the BPO market, in addition to direct sales to enterprises.

This product has an open, multitiered, service-oriented and standards-based architecture, with well-documented application programming interfaces. Thus, it is easy to integrate with software infrastructures and application development tools, as well as to embed for partners.

Visualization of many process aspects is innovative and easy to use for business professionals. Examples include its modeler, design time repository, dashboards and reports, and a new graphic for analysis of process execution paths.

Business Expert supports real-time analysis of in-flight processes and dynamically suggests changes to process conditions and rules to keep running processes optimal. It has strong reporting capabilities. Users can dynamically add new process performance metrics in the runtime environment to gain insight into current execution data.

Cautions

Savvion's current release reflects the tactical needs of a few of its best customers more than its own, market-driven innovations. Two examples (which we find inconsistent with the requirements of this market) are a new tabular method of data entry for process activities and new support for project management (which is somewhat competitive with Microsoft Project). Customers should watch for developments that evolve in directions inconsistent with mainstream market demand.

Beyond the U.S., Savvion serves its customers primarily through indirect sales channels, partners and resellers. (Savvion has a small direct presence in Europe and a larger direct and indirect presence in India.)

As Savvion expands its sales through more indirect channels, such as system integrators and consulting partners, business process outsourcers, and OEM relationships, enterprises should watch for any impact to support and product release plans from resources being spread too thin.

IBM compra a Lombardi Software

Abaixo segue o link do press release.

http://www-03.ibm.com/press/us/en/pressrelease/28890.wss

Strengths (Lombardi)

Lombardi has keen insights into the functions required by each user role involved in the business process life cycle. Lombardi consistently

produces highly intuitive software that addresses each role's perspective, while providing an integrated round-trip user experience.

Because Teamworks is easy for business analysts to use, it is well-suited to continuous process improvement programs where empowering business users or business analysts is key.

The business process executes from the process model, thereby simplifying dynamic changes to in-flight business processes at runtime and preventing design-time artifacts from getting out-of-sync with implementation artifacts.

Lombardi customer references are among the most advanced in BPM maturity. They demonstrate broad adoption of BPM across an

organization that yield transformative business results.

Blueprint appeals to business managers and strategic planners who seek a tool for high-level process diagramming and knowledge capture. It complements the Teamworks process models and is available via low-cost SaaS.

Cautions (Lombardi)

Customers with smaller deal sizes may find it challenging to command Lombardi's attention.

Lombardi's support for case management processes is not as strong as some of its competitors.

Lombardi Teamworks does not offer multitenant SaaS, which some ISVs may need for highly scalable cloud services or enterprises may want for private cloud services.

Lombardi does not invest in process templates or frameworks or recruit partners to build solution accelerators. These factors may be

an obstacle for organizations looking for specific process-based applications.

Cautions (IBM)

IBM doesn't have one BPMS product; rather, it fulfills its BPM strategy through federated interoperability across two basic offerings augmented by extended offerings. IBM has made significant progress with integration across the two basic offerings, but has not yet achieved full integration.

The broader software division’s acquisition strategy will continue to augment IBM's BPMS vision and product road map. Customers will need to monitor the integration of new technologies.

Individual products in the suite have strong and rich functionality. However, in combination, the permutations of configuration possibilities are overwhelming. Customers usually require help from a service provider.

WebSphere Dynamic BPMS edition has few references.

Processamento Real Time: Processos executados a cada interação.

Qual é a situação financeira do fabricante?

SOA for Dummies (Mini eBook)

Pequeno, simples, direto e prático. Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) is the most important technology initiative facing businesses today. SOA is game changing, and early SOA successes make it clear that SOA is here to stay. This book introduces you to the basics of SOA in context with the real life experiences of seven companies. Seen through the varied business environments depicted in each of the case studies, we hope you will recognize that SOA is more than a bunch of new software products strung together to allow technology companies to have something else to sell. SOA represents a dramatic change in the relationship between business and IT. SOA makes technology a true business enabler and empowers business and technology leaders alike.

Post completo.

Fonte: SOA, Simples Assim!, http://soasimples.com/blog/

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://filipecotait.blogspot.com/2009/10/soa-e-bpm-juntos-ou-separados.html' title='SOA e BPM.

Among the ways to keep a service-oriented architecture (SOA) initiative on track, forming a center of excellence (COE) is a frequently named option. Indeed, a recent Forrester survey shows that having an SOA COE correlates with higher satisfaction with SOA. It is more interesting, however, to note that the most-valuable functions that SOA COEs perform, as judged by Forrester survey respondents, have to do with leadership and governance for SOA, not training on detailed technology skills. As architects plan for SOA and guide their organization in its adoption, they should think of the SOA COE first as a governance body and only second as a training body.

Forrester asked survey respondents to rank order the most valuable functions of their SOA COE. Our analysis of the responses identifies five SOA COE functions as the most valuable:

1.Creating and maintaining SOA vision and plans. 2.Acting in an approval role as part of the SOA governance program. 3.Managing patterns for SOA implementations. 4.Managing the portfolio/library of SOA-based services. 5.Planning the future of the SOA technology base.

SOA and Web services are not the same thing: SOA is the design concepts; Web services are one (very important) technology stack for implementing those concepts. While SOA COEs do provide training on SOA and Web services standards and products, this top five list shows that guiding SOA design is a more-valuable goal for SOA COEs to pursue. The top five SOA COE practices are what they are because:

• SOA vision provides the broad context for good design. If the organization doesn't know why it's doing SOA, it will have difficulty getting momentum. Without clear leadership and vision, many will find reason to resist, and even those who get on board with SOA will pull the initiative in different directions. With a strategic SOA vision focused around business design concepts, your people become focused on the right level of design for your most-important SOA-based services: business services. This also gives them a perspective for understanding how application services and infrastructure services are also important, but add value inside of IT, as opposed to the business value focus of business services.

• Approval provides the best mentoring. As opposed to providing only guidelines, training, or mentoring, active participation in SOA governance by approving SOA deliverables gives an SOA COE a strong position for leadership and for keeping SOA on track. When your SOA COE is involved in actually approving SOA deliverables, mentoring has real teeth. But even more, the two-way give and take between COE and project team members ensures that the design guidance the COE provides actually works in the real world.

• Patterns provide concrete design guidance. Patterns may be developed as guidance for implementing individual services or as reference architectures to guide the design of an entire SOA-based solution. Training and mentoring are good, but the more that expertise is encoded into patterns and sample deliverables, the easier to learn and follow it becomes. Patterns provide stronger guidance than design principles because they put the principles into practice in different contexts, showing more fully how they are to be applied and allowing many design decisions to be premade.

• Available services must be organized to facilitate their use. Whether via a spreadsheet, a Web page, or a formal SOA registry-repository, services need some type of organization and cataloging that enables team members to use services when and where they should. In Forrester's conversations with clients, we find that firms' approaches are divided: Some take a library view of SOA services (a loosely organization collection of what projects have produced), while others take a portfolio view of SOA services (a planned, evolving, and coherent set of coordinated services). A library view is a starting point that ensures the availability of broad knowledge of what is available, but it doesn't provide the process or organizational discipline to actually use the service library. A more strategic portfolio view provides a much stronger basis for designing services into projects, even before the project budget is set.

• Getting the technology base ready provides the base for service design. When your organization buys a new piece of technology infrastructure, it tends to stay around a long time. Because the technology becomes embedded in your applications, it will be hard to get rid of. If each team is making its own decisions for SOA technology, the resulting diversity will greatly increase the difficulty of taking an enterprise approach to SOA. When your COE has an advance plan for the evolution of your SOA technology base - including how your existing technologies fit into your SOA platform - it provides a solid base for the specification of patterns and the design of your services.

By addressing the more-important concerns of getting the design of your services right, these top five practices form a stronger foundation for the value of your SOA COE compared with simple training on SOA technology and standards. As your COE pursues these functions, it will by default build into these functions much of the necessary training on standards and products.

Randy Heffner is a Vice President at Forrester Research, serving Enterprise Architecture professionals. He is a leading expert on architectures and design approaches for building enterprise applications that are secure and resilient in the face of continuous business and technology change.

Fonte: Computerworld, http://www.computerworld.com

Primeiramente, vamos situar a governança BPM & SOA.

Visão estratégica;

Governança;

Projeto piloto;

Patrocínio do projeto;

Abordagem incremental;

Consultoria especializada;

http://www.soafacts.com/

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://filipecotait.blogspot.com/2009/09/primeiro-post-uma-reflexao.html' title='Primeiro Post...
